It all started as something completely different. We were talking here at Demandbase about how big Dreamforce has become, and how there is so much there for every department of the organization. Different apps, custom sites, and an expanded platform that supports easy integration with so many of the systems that every enterprise uses to run their business. We got to talking about how the maturity of a company can often be measured by the business processes they run with Salesforce.com, and we even invited the San Francisco Salesforce user group in on the discussion at one of their recent meetings. But there was a problem with the theory…
Simply because you have an app downloaded, or have a few marketing campaigns created doesn’t mean you are “mature.” You have to put your money where your mouth is. And by money, I really mean MONEY. Revenue.
The single most obvious sign of a successful business is revenue growth. No kidding, right? In B2B there is a growing movement called Revenue Performance Management. Largely championed by the marketing automation industry, it relies upon an alignment between sales and marketing to accurately predict revenue growth through closely monitored performance metrics and replicable campaign and lead nurturing models.
It’s tough enough to get sales and marketing to agree, but if you can get finance and the C-suite on board as well … that’s when the magic really starts to happen.
