All the Doctor Who companions [Infographic]

It's goodbye Amy Pond after Karen Gillan left in a tear-jerking mid-season finale, The Angels Take Manhattan. You can read our review here.

But how will Amy be remembered in the pantheon of best and worst Doctor Who companions? Did she hit the lofty heights of a Rose Tyler or a Leela? Or sink to the lowly lows of Ace and - Time Lords preserve us - Bonnie Langford as Mel Bush?

Take a look at the amazing infographic below and make up your own minds while learning all there is to know about the Doctor's Tardis co-travellers...

For those of you not too familiar with Doctor Who, let me give you a brief history. In 1963, Doctor Who hits televisions across the UK. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, DW has been dubbed the longest running and most successful science-fiction series in history. After a 15 year hiatus and a feature length movie, Doctor Who returned in 2005. As a more polished and popular show than ever, Doctor Who went on to claim the British Academy Television Award for Best Drama Series from 2005 through 2010.

Talk about success, huh? This television show has now captured the eyes of the world, with millions of viewers world wide. Fans from out of the country use many different ways to keep up with the show, one of the most controversial being piracy. No matter how people get ahold of Doctor Who, it has inspired an outrageous fan following.

Today’s graphic details the companions of the Doctor. Some are essential to the show, yet some were not that liked by the viewers. Two companions have appeared in over 100 episodes of the show with many more not too far behind. The sticktoitiveness of the actors and actresses only parallel that of the fanatical spectators. I hope Doctor Who continues the epic running streak and never sacrifices quality.
